Port Canaveral is the second busiest cruise port in the world, luring in over 4-million cruise ship passengers every year. Cruise ships by Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian all call this massive port home. The state-of-the-art ships sail off to Mexico, the eastern Caribbean, and Bahamas on excursions that last anywhere from 3-7 days long. If you do not wish to travel far, the Victory Casino Cruise ship departs from Port Canaveral for a five-hour excursion seven days a week. Passengers get to experience Las Vegas-style gambling on four decks, dance to live DJs' tunes, and indulge in a scrumptious buffet and cocktails.

The Cove is an entertainment district onsite at Port Canaveral. Their marketplace has an assortment of dining and shopping options as well as live entertainment. The surrounding areas of Port Canaveral boast a few recreational parks. Jetty Park spans 35-acres and has a 4.5-acre family beach, campground and fishing pier. Jetty Park is connected to Freddie Patrick Park by bike paths, where many come to picnic and go fishing. Tow your boat to this spot or Rodney S. Ketcham Park; both boast boat launch ramps - free of charge. Don't have a boat of your own? There are 6 marinas in the harbor that allow you to charter boats for fishing trips and leisure excursions.

Brevard County's great outdoors, are exactly as stated, great - in scale and in amusement. There are over 100 parks situated in Brevard County that highlight the area's amazing environment. The region is punctuated with nature centers, beaches, campgrounds, golf courses, sanctuaries and conservation areas. Brevard is home to some of the most precious property in the state, like the Environmental Endangered Lands, which spans more than17,000-acres. The grounded were established to educate and preserve the county's natural habitats. Brevard County is such a unique and gorgeous locale because of it's wealth of rare and endangered flora and fauna.

Unlike any other place around, visitors get to view areas untouched by man and relish Mother Nature's beauty up close by guided tour, kayak excursion or nature hike. The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of 140,000-acres and is home to 1,500 different species of animals and plants. Just south of Melbourne Beach is the 248-acre Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, a protected habitat for nesting sea turtles. This part of the county is the most significant green turtle nesting area in North America and the most significant area in the western hemisphere for loggerheads. Leatherback turtles, known as the largest and most rare turtles in the world, come to nest here too. Another great national wildlife refuge in the county is the Canaveral National Seashore. The barrier island is a nesting site for sea turtles and a refuge for various threatened wildlife. In addition to site-seeing, visitors can learn about the local wildlife, hike, swim and paddle boat.

Brevard's waters are full of wildlife. The 310-mile long, St. John's River is populated with alligators, dolphins, and gentle manatees. This part of Florida is particularly known for its large manatee population. The Indian River Lagoon is an important home for these endangered sea cows, which includes Florida's West Indian manatee. Many come to visit and view these magnificent wonders of the waters. So many animals flock to this region, especially the birds. Over 330 species of birds have migrated to this area, which is why Brevard County is a prime spot for bird watchers to catch a glimpse of their truly stunning feathered friends.
